Studies
Achilleas – Apostolos Tigas was born in Volos in 1984.
STUDIES
From a very young age he began to study classical European and Byzantine church music. He holds a degree in Byzantine music from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki (class of P. Pappaemmanuel) and a degree in Harmony from the Macedonian Conservatory of Thessaloniki (class of D. Athanasiadis). He is a graduate of the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia, majoring in traditional music, specializing in new (supervising professor Ch. Barbas). He holds a Master’s degree from Istanbul Technical University, M.I.A.M. (Center for Advanced Studies in Music) specializing in the interpretation of Ottoman music in the new and teaching the famous master neizen Dr. Suleyman Erguner. Since May 2014 he is a PhD candidate at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Music Studies, under the supervision of Professor Achilleas Chaldaiakis. His teachers in the new, traditional flutes and the theory of Makam were some of the most renowned performers and teachers of their kind in Greece and abroad such as Haris Lambrakis, Socrates Sinopoulos, Manos Achalinotopoulos, Christos Tsiamoulis, Omer Erdoğh Beşiroğlu.
Educational Activity
He teaches new, traditional flute and Eastern Music theory at renowned institutions in Greece (Filippos Nakas Conservatory, Ecclesiastical Foundation of Byzantine and Traditional Music of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, Volos Municipal Conservatory, Athenaeum Conservatory).
Professional Activity
He was a founding member of many musical groups (“EO”, “Mounajat”, “EBED trio”, “Terpnon” ensemble) that experiment with modern sound on the musical traditions of the Mediterranean. He has participated in numerous concerts in Greece and abroad with prominent musicians from the wider Mediterranean area such as: Sumru Agiruruyen (Turkey), Lamia Bedioui (Tunisia), Ziad Razab (Syria), Efren Lopez Sanz (Spain), Zoe Tiganouria ( Hellas).
